Some of Our Current Opportunities
St John Ambulance Administrative Roles and
First Aid Cover
St John Ambulance provide young people
and adults with opportunities for community service, personal
development and adventure.
To gain national qualifications and the
skills and experience needed to care for the sick and injured.
There
are opportunities for youth work and administrative roles.
Also for
providing first aid cover at many different public events.
ChildLine Switchboarder
ChildLine relies heavily
on volunteers to provide a service to children and young people. The
switchboard is the first contact with a child or young person has with
ChildLine therefore it is crucial that this contact is responded to
appropriately through the switchboard operaotr being warm, reassuring
and encouraging.
Switchboarders may be given personal information
by a child or young person, such as their name and address.
Swicthboarders answer calls with a degree of remote supervision.
Derbyshire Autism Services Group - Residential Breaks
Volunteer
A volunteer joins a group of staff and other
volunteers in taking a group of between 6 and 8 young people on a
residential break. These are between 24 and 48 hours depending on the
team the volunteer assists. Activities include ropes courses, night
hikes, games, climbing etc and aim to boost the confidence and
self-esteem of the young people whilst giving other family members a
much needed break.
We offer comprehensive in house training to
all volunteers before they begin volunteering. This currently runs over
three evenings and covers topics such as What is Autism and Aspergers,
impact on family, behaviour strategies, safeguarding, policies and
procedures to name but a few.
Ongoing training is then offered as and
when appropriate and regular supervisions take place.
Volunteers
must also complete an application form, have an informal interview,
receive two satisfactory references and a satisfactory CRB check.
Y Not Festival Stewards
Festival
stewards will volunteer for five hours a day for three days at the Y Not
Festival and have the rest of the time to enjoy the music and
atmosphere. Whilst on duty Festival Stewards will be an essential cog in
the inner workings of the festival by assisting the organisers with
ticket and wristband control, car park attending, campsite attending and
by generally being a human signpost for the festival goers. You may even
get to assit backstage too!
The Festival runs from July 30th to
August 1st 2010.
